From the Garden May 6, 2018 - Manna Meal - so the hungry can eat

From the Garden May 6, 2018

The Manna Meal Garden is being prepared to plant our GrowJoy donated potted vegetables now that the soil is warming up.  Susan, Patricia, Rosemary, Bob, Ann, Jean, Gary, Janet, and Therese worked in the hot sun last week sifting and spreading compost, hauling and raking mulch, and reattaching fencing around raised beds.  We planted Contender beans, transplanted sun chokes, watered transplants, checked the cabbages under the ag cloth and raked the picnic area.

Meg brought the vegetable scraps that Luke sent from the Manna Meal Kitchen and we added it to one of our three cooking piles in the compost sheds.  Bud Cottrill, president of the WV Nursery and Landscape Association, stopped by on his way to a job site with his landscape crew to see if we needed any "heavy lifting" done.

The garden functions and flourishes with the help of everyone working together: from the Manna Meal Executive Director, the kitchen staff and volunteers, the Rock Lake Presbyterian Church, the City of South Charleston, the garden volunteers, to the folks who spread the good word about the garden.  It is truly a working community garden.

This week we plan to work on Tuesday (May 8th) and Saturday (May 12th) from 10:00 until noon.  Visitors and new volunteers are always welcomed at the garden.
